Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle
by Tom Venuto
An honest review from someone who actually
brought the book and, oh yes, used it!
Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle was written by a champion body builder named Tom Venuto. More than just a muscle-bound enthusiast, you get the impression that Venuto is a man who excels at everything he tries.
He begins the book with an empowering section on goals and motivation. Many of you may feel dismayed at this point, wondering if this book is really for you, but before you leave the site in search of another solution to your weight issues, consider the primary cause of your past weight loss dissapointments.
Inherently speaking, it should not be that difficult to lose weight. We should be able to follow obvious diet information, get into the gym regularly and quickly watch the pounds roll off…and stay off as long as we continue with this lifestyle. For how many of us is this the case?
Even though the answer to the weight loss we seek is not really that elusive, many of us fail in our attempts as though it were.
This important chapter of the book represents the perfect place to start. It is the place where you abandon past behaviors that have limited your success and adopt a new attitude towards your weight loss goal.
I especially like this chapter because it comes from the heart of a man whom you can tell practices what he preaches. Venuto started body building at age 14, has won countless championships, owns a successful gym and is a much celebrated author to boot. It would be wise to take a lesson from him on the area of reaching your goals.
Now on to the actual weight loss information.
Such a depressing and often frustrating subject typically does not appear interesting or fun to read about. Therefore, this 300+ page book is a little intimidating when downloaded after purchase. However, jumping in and starting to read, will alleviate your fears.
Ventuo writes in an easy, conversational style that is neither boring nor complicated to read. He takes subjects such as food nutrients, gym time and body fat percentage and actually has you turning the pages to learn more about them.
Reading this book will undoubtedly show you numerous things you have been doing wrong. If you are anything like me, you best efforts are sometimes completely useless. You put on weight even when you think you are being careful about what you eat. This book will help you here.
Venuto lays out the difference between good foods and bad foods and has very little to gain when he does so. If you have ever fallen for the multi-million dollar advertising campaigns that point to low calories but don’t mention fat or point to low fat but don’t mention sugar, you will find his frank and honest assessment of the food you are currently eating very enlightening and very helpful.
After reading this book, you will never again find yourself eating all of the wrong foods without knowing.
And then there is the exercise, an area in which many of us struggle. If you have ever felt intimidated to go the gym, I have felt your pain. The idea of being stuck in a place with a bunch of “beautiful people” is bad enough, but if I have to ask one of them for help because I don’t know what I’m doing, well, my gym membership money is going to go to waste.
After reading through the parts of the book that pertain to exercise, I felt empowered to get more out of my visits to the gym. In fact, with Venuto’s instructions, you don’t even need a gym. You can strengthen and improve your body just using some basic equipment in your house and variations of the programs he provides.
All in all, I’d say this book was an excellent investment for me. I gained a great deal from reading it and actually lost weight too. I intend to keep using the information in the book as, quite frankly, it works. I would recommend it highly.
