Feel the Burn: Cardio for You

There is something missing from a lot of weight loss plans out there. Often, they focus heavily on food and nothing else.

Some of them may pay lip service to the importance of exercise, they may tell you to be sure that are walking around the block or going to the gym, but they don’t focus on it as much as they should. They are perpetuating a misconception about how people should approach the issue of weight loss.

Many of us approach weight loss with a heavy focus on losing the pounds. We want to look better, now.

But there is a problem, a long-term problem.

When you lose weight by reducing caloric intake, you are often just messing with water levels. This will not have the permanent lasting effect that you are looking for.

When you lose weight by, instead, reducing body fat. This is when you will take yourself out of that nasty statistic that says most people regain 105% of the weight they lose when dieting.

So how do you focus more on losing body fat? Well, lowering your calorie intake will, of course, be a part of the process but, according to Tom Venuto, author the book Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, aerobic exercise is the most important and most effective part of the process.

Strangely enough, when we get serious about losing weight, most of us instinctively lower our food intake but do nothing about exercise. This must change if we are to see long-lasting weight loss results.

In the book, Venuto gives a detail description of the kinds of cardiovascular exercises you need to be doing in order to experience the weight loss you desire.

He talks about frequency, intensity and length of workout sessions. There is more information on the correct heart rate zone you should strive for while working out. He even shows you a way to triple your fat loss, that all important factor to get and keep the weight off.

This method is not just presented as theory, he backs it up with a detailed description of what you should do in the pages that follow.

All in all, the chapter on cardio exercise was very enlightening for me. It helped me to understand why my yoyo dieting has had nothing but frustrating results over the years. It helped me to understand why dancing-type aerobics classes never quite gave me the results I was looking for and it also helped me to understand what I should be doing to make my cardio exercise sessions three times more effective.
