How to lose the Belly Fat
Why is belly fat so hard to get rid of? Maybe it’s because it is the area that most people desire to see weight loss in the most…
Though your belly may stick out the most, it is actually just a reflection of the flab that exists over your entire body. (Disclaimer here, I can talk this way because I have had plenty of flab in my lifetime :)) In some rare cases, you may actually be disproportionately heavy in the belly area but this still doesn’t change the fact that the weight loss will be needed all over.
Now, why is belly fat so hard to lose? It may be a combination of psychological and physical factors. Yes, we do tend to want that area to disappear the fastest and our focus on it makes it seem like the most difficult task.
It’s like a gambler betting in Vegas. The number 7 is not actually physical harder to get than any other number, but he wants it so badly, it just appears that way.
Another factor in the apparent difficulty of losing belly fat is the unrealistic way that we try to accomplish that and that alone. Have you ever set yourself the task of doing a zillion crunches every morning until your stomach goes flat? Well if your body fat percentage was 20, 30, 40% or higher, then you could have done 8 zillion crunches hanging upside and it wouldn’t have made a difference.
Like it or not, you need a holistic approach to weight loss and that it why it is so difficult to make just the belly go down.
I touched upon an important subject that pertains to the appearance of your belly in an earlier paragraph, body fat percentage.
Picture the abs you most admire, those men and women who are the proud owners of cuts, lines and bulging muscles bursting to get through their stomachs. There is something missing behind the wall that is their skin, that something is fat. Were it present, you would only see it, and you could never see the muscle, makes sense doesn’t it?
Did you know that in order to have these kinds of abs, you actually have to get your body fat percentage down to certain levels?
Men below 11%
Women below 15%
Now, of course, not everyone wants to achieve this particular look, but if you want a flat stomach, this is the direction in which you should point your efforts.
Of course, you will need to exercise a great deal, you will even need to focus a lot of your exercises on your stomach doing things like crunches, but, that effort will be wasted if you do not pay the proper attention to your diet.
